Social Media Management in 2025: What Actually Works for Local Businesses

Most businesses treat social media like a bulletin board — they post promotions, business updates, and the occasional holiday graphic. And then they wonder why nobody follows them or buys from them.
Social media works when you understand one fundamental truth: People don't go on social media to be sold to. They go to be entertained, inspired, and informed.
The Content Mix That Works
After managing 50+ business social media accounts, I've found the ideal content mix:
- 40% Educational Content (tips, tutorials, how-tos related to your industry)
- 30% Behind-the-Scenes (show your process, your team, your workspace)
- 20% Social Proof (client results, reviews, testimonials)
- 10% Direct Offers (promotions, services, CTAs)
Most businesses have this backwards — they post 90% promotions and 10% everything else.
Platforms to Prioritize in 2025
Not every platform is equal for every business. Here's my recommendation:
- Local Service Businesses (cleaning, roofing, landscaping): Facebook + Instagram
- B2B / Professional Services: LinkedIn + YouTube
- Restaurants / Retail: Instagram + TikTok
- Health & Beauty: Instagram + TikTok + Pinterest
The Posting Schedule That Builds Momentum
Consistency beats frequency every time. I'd rather post 3 high-quality pieces of content per week than post 7 mediocre ones. For our managed accounts, we post:
- 1 educational video (Reels or TikTok)
- 1 behind-the-scenes story or post
- 1 social proof post (client result or review)
This simple schedule, done consistently, grows following and generates leads every single month.
